Nearly six decades after cannabis was added to the strictest category of the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) on Wednesday accepted a World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation to remove cannabis and cannabis resin from Schedule IV.

Cannabis — the flowering or fruiting tops of the cannabis plant

Cannabis resin — the separated resin, crude or purified, obtained from the cannabis plant

Six WHO recommendations, first provided to the CND in January, 2019.
